Practice Areas

Helping a family adopt a child is often the most rewarding aspect of family law. However, for an adoption to be successful, you need an attorney who understands the process, can advise you on the legal standards and complete your paperwork correctly and efficiently. Any mistake in the process can cause an adoption to be delayed, or in the worst circumstances, be denied. Whether you are completing a stepparent adoption, an adoption from foster care or a private adoption, at Maciorowski Law, LLC, we can help you through the process.
Adoption
Child Support
There have been recent changes to Ohio child support law. We can help you understand those changes and simplify the process.
Establishing Child Support
To establish a proper child support order, the court considers income, cost of medical insurance, cost of child care and many other factors. At Maciorowski Law, LLC, we have a thorough understand of the child support statute and can estimate child support obligations for our clients.
Enforcing Child Support
Our office can help you either work with the Child Support Enforcement Agency regarding enforcement actions or appear in court regarding child support contempt proceedings. We can explain the process to make sure you understand your rights and remedies in regards to child support.
Modifying Child Support
Child support orders are modified when one child emancipates or if there has been an increase or involuntary decrease in income. Support can also be modified for a change in medical or child care costs. It’s important to understand how child support is calculated to determine when a modification is appropriate.

Dissolution
Many spouses want to terminate their marriage by agreement. When the parties agree to proceed via a dissolution instead of filing for divorce, the process begins through the drafting of a separation agreement. Many times, parties who believe they have reached a full agreement haven’t fully considered their assets, liabilities and issues involving children. At Michelle M. Maciorowski Law, LLC, we will draft a separation agreement, and if necessary, a shared parenting plan, that fully incorporates the parties’ agreement before filing your Petition for Dissolution.

Relocation and Custody
When the custodial parent intends to relocate, particularly out of state relocation, it can require a change in the parenting time schedule, and sometimes a change of custody. It’s important to understand your obligation as a custodial parent intending to relocate and well as your remedy should the custodial parent move without proper notice.
Foreign Custody Orders
It’s become more and more common for parties to divorce in one state and relocate to another. In certain circumstances, the order of one state can be registered in Ohio for modification or enforcement. We can explain to you when your order can be transferred to Ohio and when it must remain in the originating court.
Legal Custody
Whenever possible, the court prefers the separating parents to enter into a shared parenting arrangement in which they share equally in the parenting duties, often without equally sharing in parenting time. In making a custody determination, the court is guided by the best interest factors including the parents’ wishes, the child’s wishes, as well as the parents’ ability to work together.
At Maciorowski Law, LLC, we will explain your legal options and help you fight for your children.
